I told her it was her business, and not mine.
I thought my mom and I had a very open relationship. I was at an age where we could discuss anything and be honest about our lives. Last week, I saw her heading into town, and wondered why she didn’t ask me to go along. We normally did all our shopping together, but today she was sneaking out without me. I called dad to see if she was alright, and he told me she was going to the medical marijuana dispensary. It shocked me to hear dad say that. Mom never said she used medical cannabis. We were friends more than mother and daughter now. When you’re forty, you don’t need a mom, but your parents become your friends. I felt like she didn’t trust me enough to tell me she used medical marijuana. I sat outside the medical marijuana dispensary and waited for mom to come out. She didn’t see my car, and I would not stop her and ask why she didn’t tell me. I felt like if she trusted me enough, she would have told me. I headed back home and started dinner for my husband. Two hours later, my mom called and said she needed to talk to me. She told me dad had mentioned to her he may have overstepped boundaries by telling she had gone to the medical marijuana dispensary. I told her it was her business, and not mine. Her response was that was why she said nothing. She knew I would take a high and mighty stance about her using medical marijuana. I took no stance, but was worried about she hadn’t told me.
